Fife Child Protection Committee through its Workforce Development Group has an overview of single agency child protection training and considers the implications for inter-agency training.  An Inter Agency Child Protection Training Programme is in place and this is continually reviewed to ensure training is relevant, effective and consistent.    Dates for training are now issued bi-annually (February and June).  Refer to  the Inter Agency Child Protection Training Programme for full details of courses and current dates.

The Fife Inter Agency Child Protection Training programme should be read in conjunction with the Scottish Government National Framework for Child Protection Learning and Development in Scotland 2012 which outlines the competencies/knowledge/skills required in the three workforce categories referred to in this calendar. In addition single agency training calendars should be considered by applicants. It is recognised that applicants’ needs will vary and as such they will wish to consider training opportunities outwith the workforce category that they may sit in.

To help make decisions about which CPC Inter-Agency Child Protection and GIRFEC Training to attend the ‘Inter-Agency Training Pathwayhas been developed to give an indication, depending on the workforce categories of General, Specific or Intensive, on the relevance and order of training.  If you have any queries please contact Diane Roth, Learning and Development Officer on 03451 555555 ext 444453 or

You will find further information on the workforce categories in the Inter Agency GIRFEC and Child Protection Training Programme or the Training Strategy, which can both be accessed at the links below.

Ideally all new employees in any service/agency should, as part of their initial induction, receive basic awareness and understanding in terms of child protection training.   Existing employees should have access to single agency child protection training.  Generally services and agencies are responsible for  induction and basic training and Fife Child Protection Committee can assist with guidance on this matter.  Fife Child Protection Committee recognises that not all services and agencies may have this capacity and to complement any existing single agency arrangements, or where there are no arrangements, Fife Child Protection Committee delivers a basic awareness raising course.   In addition e-learning courses below are available for all contact workforce groups.  For further details see the page on e-learning.

Fife CPC Inter Agency Child Protection Training is delivered free of charge to all applicants.  Please ensure that you have the approval of your line manager to attend prior to submitting your application.  Courses are held in the School of Nursing and  Health Sciences, Forth Avenue, Kirkcaldy.  No catering is provided but there is facility to buy tea, coffee and light snacks.
